Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund Returning For 'TRON 3'
More exciting news from Disney: Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund, the two headliners from 2010's TRON: Legacy, will be teaming up once again to star in the yet-to-be-officially-named TRON 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
TRON: Legacy was Disney's follow-up to their cult-classic 1982 film TRON, which also starred veteran actor Jeff Bridges. At the time, TRON had only grossed around $33 million in the domestic box office.
In contrast, Legacy earned over $172 million domestically as well as $228 million overseas, highlighting the movie's huge image in popular culture and art. TRON 3 easily taps into this market and appears to be a safe bet for a considerably high box office, especially with the news that Wilde and Hedlund will return.
Disney has reportedly been planning TRON 3 since shortly after the release of Legacy. The movie is slated for a 2017 premiere.
Hopefully Daft Punk comes back, too.
