'Compton' Dominates in 2nd Weekend Box Office

N.W.A. is still box office money.

Straight Outta Compton, the biopic about the infamous rap group, easily rode into first place on its second weekend in theaters, with a gross of $26.8 million. The movie has cumed $111.4 million stateside thus far.

The movie's weekend win was anticipated in spite of stoner comedy American Ultra and action flick Hitman: Agent 47 both preeming. The movies respectively grossed $5.5 million and $8.2. million.

Compton's success is most likely due to its warm critical reception - it currently sits at 90% on the tomatometer -and very strong word-of-mouth.

Even so, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation managed to snag second place in the weekend box office, tallying $11.7 million, also likely due to good reviews from critics.

Compton and Mission: Impossible could face stiff competition this weekend in We Are Your Friends, the Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski-led romantic drama about an up-and-coming Hollywood DJ.
