'Creed 2' May Reunite Rocky and Apollo

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Sylvester Stallone revealed that the upcoming Creed sequel could feature his Rocky Balboa and Carl Weathers' Apollo Creed reuniting once again in some fashion.

Paraphrasing Creed director Ryan Coogler's brainstorming of the sequel, Stallone drew comparisons between the yet-to-be-titled Creed 2 and The Godfather Part II.  Presumably, that would mean continuing the story of Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) while using it his arc as bookends for a retrospective look at Apollo, who died in Rocky IV at the hands of Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Both Apollo and Rocky would be present together during the sequence.

Stallone did not comment on any plot specifics, as the project is still being developed under MGM, although he did mention Adonis possibly taking on "a more ferocious, big Russian" in his arc. "There's no doubt that we're making a Creed 2," MGM CEO Gary Barber told Variety.

It is not yet known if Coogler will return for Creed 2, as the director is being circled for Marvel's Black Panther.

Creed has grossed $103 million at the U.S. box office since its Thanksgiving 2015 release.
