There's been an awakening at the U.S. box office. Have you felt it?

J.J. Abrams's Star Wars: The Force Awakens grossed $8 million on Tuesday, bringing its domestic cume to $758 million.

The figure puts it at just $2.5 million behind James Cameron's Avatar for the number one spot atop the highest-grossing movies in the United States. Wednesday estimates between $5 and $7 million would put The Force Awakens above Avatar before the end of the day.

It's important to note, however, that these domestic figures are not adjusted for inflation. After the adjustmentThe Force Awakens has the number twenty-one spot, sitting behind Titanic, Jurassic Park, the original Star Wars, and - at the very top - Gone with the Wind.

The Force Awakens still has a long way to go, however, in the all-time international box office listAvatar currently sits at the top of that list as well, sporting an incredible $2.8 billion. The Force Awakens has the number four spot with $1.5 billion, with the next rung on the ladder being Jurassic World with $1.7 billion.
